Budget Policy Research

POSITION FILLED

FACULTY SUPERVISOR(S):

Natasha Sarin

PROJECT DESCRIPTION:

Natasha Sarin, Associate Professor at Yale Law School, is looking for research assistants for work that she is collaborating on with Danny Yagan, Associate Professor at UC Berkeley, and Martha Gimbel, Research Scholar at Yale Law School. This work is focused on research around the estimates that are part of the budget policy process, particularly around long-term outcomes and return on investment. RAs will be engaged in all stages of the research process, including conceptual development, model programming, data analysis, and writing. This research will give RAs the opportunity to see how academic research that is intended both for publication in academic journals and for policy relevance is conducted. This role would be a particularly good fit for candidates who are deciding between applying to PhD programs, applying to other types of grad programs, or taking a role in government or think tanks. We are recruiting both for candidates who can start immediately and for candidates who can start in summer of 2024.

Natasha Sarin is also looking for research assistants for other academic work. Professor Sarin’s research focuses on public finance and financial regulation, with work on tax policy, household finance, insurance, and macroprudential risk management. Areas of focus include the stability of the banking system and implications for regulatory approaches, and the most effective uses of the tax system. Professor Sarin is similarly recruiting for candidates who can start immediately and who can start in summer of 2024.

REQUISITE SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

Candidates should have coursework in economics and statistics and an interest in public policy, although candidates with strong programming skills and no prior experience in economics are also encouraged to apply.
