CSAP Predoc: Research on Political Behavior and Government Performance

This position is part of The Center for the Study of American Politics (CSAP) Pre-Doctoral Fellows Program, which is affiliated with the Tobin Center/Economics Pre-Doctoral Fellows Program. The CSAP predoc program provides a high-quality education and training in quantitative political science research for individuals who are considering pursuing a Ph.D. in political science or a closely related discipline. Project and Position Description:

Professors Alan Gerber, Greg Huber, and Josh Kalla seek a shared pre-doctoral researcher who will assist with new and ongoing research projects in the broad area of American Politics. Research projects will likely include, but are not limited to, field experiments using informational interventions to improve government performance, measurement of bureaucratic and officeholder quality and careers, designing politically viable general interest policy proposals, elite surveys, and developing political economy models of government performance.

Job responsibilities will be tailored to the strengths of the successful applicants and will likely include assisting with research projects involving researchers at multiple institutions, data collection and management, and data analysis.

 

Requisite Skills and Qualifications:

Technical skills such as computer programming, database management, or a math background are highly desirable. Excellent organizational skills, experience using computer databases and statistical software, and coursework in statistical methods are essential. Project management experience is a plus.

Candidates need not be political science majors. We welcome applicants from other fields, such as but not limited to computer science, economics, engineering, mathematics, physics, psychology, and statistics.
