CSAP Predoc: U.S. Congressional Elections

This position is part of The Center for the Study of American Politics (CSAP) Pre-Doctoral Fellows Program, which is affiliated with the Tobin Center/Economics Pre-Doctoral Fellows Program. The CSAP predoc program provides a high-quality education and training in quantitative political science research for individuals who are considering pursuing a Ph.D. in political science or a closely related discipline. Project and Position Description:
The CSAP predoc will work with Dr. Meisels on projects largely focused on congressional campaigns. The projects involve large-scale collection of data on candidates’ campaign platforms performed both in real time and via internet archives. In addition to collecting and cleaning data themselves, the predoc may assist in managing and coordinating undergraduate research assistants’ workflow.
Specific tasks include:
- Manual and automated collection of data from online sources
- Cleaning and merging data using the statistical language R
- Coordinate task assignments for undergraduate research assistants

- Strong interest in American politics
- Proficient in data analysis in R
- Detail-oriented, proactive, and able to work independently
