Research on the Effects of Artificial Intelligence on Innovation

Project and Position Description:
This is a full-time pre-doctoral fellow position under the supervision of David Argente, Diana Van Patten, and Kai Hao Yang, all from the Economics Group at Yale SOM.
The hired pre-doctoral fellow will support projects focused on the determinants of innovation, both theoretically and empirically. The selected applicant will be engaged in all stages of the research process, including theoretical modeling, data collection, data analysis, and writing. Examples of potential projects include:
-Studying the impact of AI and personalized recommendation algorithms on product innovation.
-Analyzing the evolution of product innovation on online platforms as they adopt different algorithms.
-Evaluating the policy implications of AI on innovation.
Examples of required tasks include writing literature reviews, providing investigative background research, checking mathematical proofs, and assisting with model estimation. The hired pre-doctoral fellow will have regular meetings with the faculty. They will also receive dedicated research training and career development skills with their Tobin pre-doctoral fellow cohort. The candidate is expected to show interest, curiosity, and fully engage with the research process.
Requisite Skills and Qualifications:
- Strong quantitative background: This could include Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Economics, Data Science, Computer Science, International Development, or other degrees with substantial quantitative coursework
- Strong computer skills including using various software including Matlab, R and Stata. Programming experience in these languages and general purpose languages like Python and reproducibility tools like GitHub a strong plus
- Strong academic record
