Ryan Hughes
Ryan Hughes is a public policy professional and political strategist. He graduated from the University of Connecticut in 2018 with a degree in political science.
Ryan has worked in Connecticut politics from a young age, making a lasting impact as a campaign manager and political operative. During his time as a lobbyist, he successfully represented over thirty clients from the private sector. In 2019, he successfully lobbied for legislation that increased insurance coverage for mammograms and access to breast ultrasounds for those with dense breast tissue.
In his role as a Policy Analyst for the Connecticut State Senate Democratic Caucus, Ryan worked for the Housing, Labor & Public Union Employees, Energy and Technology, and Commerce committees. During his time with the caucus, he helped support Senators through policy analysis, constituent outreach, and forming legislative strategy. He made a significant impact by authoring recommendations for the Task Force to Study Cancer Relief Benefits for Fire Fighters, many of which were later enacted into state law. These recommendations strengthened the solvency of the state’s fire fighters’ cancer relief fund and put an emphasis on increasing prevention methods. Additionally, Ryan helped negotiate a $175 million dollar law aimed at improving school indoor air quality.
