Heterogeneity in Household Spending and Well-being Around Retirement

Published: September 2021
Researchers aimed to understand the impact of retirement on spending habits, including categories of spending and amount of spending.

Analyzing consumption data from the Panel Study of Income Dynamics, researchers observe within-household changes in spending amounts and categories before and after retirement. They find that most households do not show substantial spending changes before and after retirement.
